Hotel Orbita x Foreigners not accepted. 7 (812) 247-7689 This hotel is not permitted to handle foreign tourists. It's a military hotel in an unattractive neighborhood where the metro line is broken (out of service). I'm confused why they placed an advertisement written in English in a tourist publication? Ostrovok Hotel K Not bad at all, but the location is very poor. Phone: 7 (812) 101-6497 Rates: Single $15; double $20 Location Rating: Very poor. An isolated
residential neighborhood. Very, very far from the core of the city. Very plain.
Very dull. Proximity To Metro: Poor. You will need to pick up a mini-bus to get to Kupchino Metro Station. Lobby Appearance: Okay. Room Appearance: These lower end accommodations appear to be not bad, even kind of cozy. Toilet and shower facilities are shared, and they also are not bad. Useful Nearby Businesses: There are stores at the metro. I don't see stores anywhere else out here. Hotel Restaurants: None. Other Amenities: None. Would I Stay Here: Due to the location, no. But if I was desperate for a room, then I would stay here and I'd sleep fine. Staff Speaks English? No. Comments: Our guide Elena accompanied me and she liked this place. For the money, it's not bad. The wall to wall carpets in the lobby and corridors are wrinkled everywhere. They need a carpet technician. Peterhof Ship Hotel We hunted down its location, then could not find it. A local told us it had been there, but sailed away. I heard it is not a high class facility, but I don't know for certain since I haven't seen it.
Rates: Are you ready for this? Just 200 rubles a night. That's less than 7 bucks! Location Rating: Fair. Close to a metro station
but the neighborhood is quite unattractive.
Proximity To Metro: Good. It's about a 10 minute walk to Narvskaya Metro Station. Lobby Appearance: A guard will stop you, which is good. He called the hostel people to see if it was okay to let us pass. A college and a beauty school is located here. The hostel is upstairs. The building is clean. Room Appearance: The first room we saw was not bad. And the shower and bathroom facility was modern. The next room we saw was a notch below and the shower and bathroom facility was not as nice. The toilets and showers are shared by 3 rooms. Useful Nearby Businesses: A "productie" store is nearby where you can buy food and other things. Walk a little further and you'll find a billiards place, stores and cafes. Hotel Restaurants: A cafe located in the building was closed because it was sunday. Other Amenities: None. Would I Stay Here? If I was really poor and had no place else to stay, yes I would. It's clean and safe and really, really cheap. And it is near a metro station. Staff Speaks English? No. Comments: I say the neighborhood is crappy. Tanya says it is "not very pretty." But she feels safe there and thinks it is better than the Sportivnaya at far less a price. An interesting "gate" celebrating the victory over Napoleon is located outside the metro station. It is in the process of restoration. I also saw some interesting Soviet relics in a nearby square - odd sights. Near the metro station are all kinds of businesses. We had dessert at a very comfortable, modern cafe there. Hotel Piter
J& (I think they mean to
spell it "Peter") email:
george@atlant.ru Rates: We saw three rooms with pricing of $70, $90 and $110. Breakfast is included. Location Rating: Excellent. Saint Peter & Paul
Fortress is right down the block. The Neva River and Palace Square is within
easy walking distance, and the metro is a 10 minute walk. Proximity To Metro: Very good. A ten minute walk to Sportivnaya Metro Station. Gorkovskaya Metro Station is also nearby. Lobby Appearance: Looks like it is going to be nice. This 7 room hotel is under renovation. As of February 2002, three rooms are ready right now. Room Appearance: Everything is brand new. Very nice. Useful Nearby Businesses: Restaurants are near the Fortress. Hotel Restaurants: As of the date of our visit, the cafe is being renovated. Other Amenities: None. Would I Stay Here? Absolutely! Staff Speaks English? Yes, a little. Comments: The location is great. Everything is going to be brand new. The pricing is reasonable and very fair. And there are only 7 rooms. (Book early!)
