Fregat Hotel
K
They have a nice suite and a comfortable lobby, but the
location is very poor. Rates: Double 420 rubles ($14); triple 630 rubles ($21); half luxury 1200 rubles ($40); luxury suite 1500 rubles ($50). Location Rating: Very poor. The neighborhood is
absolutely awful. Very depressing, and far away from the excitement. This hotel
was also not easy to find. It's off of the main road behind some other big,
tall, ugly apartment buildings. A port and the Gulf Of Finland are nearby. But
you can't see any water from this location.
Proximity To The Metro: Poor. From Narvskaya Metro Station we took the 66 mini-bus. If you decide to walk to the metro, it will be a very dull walk. Lobby Appearance: The first lobby you see is plain. The hotel is located on the sixth floor. And behind the entryway door was a surprising atmosphere. It was warm in appearance. I had expected much worse based upon the neighborhood. The corridors and lobby are clean and modern. Room Appearance: Fairly plain. I would only recommend the suite. It was the nicest and had a modern bathroom. The half luxury suite was okay too, but the bathroom area, although modern, did not seem as nice. The double I saw had no bathroom. Useful Nearby Businesses: I didn't see anything nearby. The area looks fairly dead. Hotel Restaurants: None. Other Amenities: None. Would I Stay Here? I don't think so. I like the warmth of this small hotel. It has a nice atmosphere inside. But the neighborhood views are just too punishing for me. And it is too isolated. Staff Speaks English? No. Comments: The neighborhood has a ghetto feel to
it. I would be depressed to live among the residents here. Galact Hotel x Foreigners not accepted.
Rates: Single 1276 rubles ($42.53); double 1495 rubles ($49.83); semi-suite 1595 rubles ($53.16); luxury suite 2392 rubles ($79.73); extra bed 390 rubles ($13). Breakfast is included. Location Rating: Fair. It could be hard to find
if you don't have a map. Far from the city center yet the neighborhood is sort
of interesting. Lots of shops nearby and the metro isn't far. Proximity To Metro: Good. About a ten minute walk to the metro. Moskovskaya Metro Station. Lobby Appearance: Our guide Elena joined me for this visit, and we had a little difficulty finding this hotel. In one door to this building is the entrance to a dormitory and it does not look that nice, but then we learned the hotel entrance was on the other side of the building. The entrance has a plaque on the wall that says "AMOH". Inside you state your business to the guard. He will direct you to use the elevator only and not the stairs. Upon entering the hotel I was a bit stunned because it is so nice. You enter a corridor that has a very attractive pinewood type of atmosphere, and attractive paintings are on the walls everywhere. It is a really nice hallway. Next you walk into a small, yet comfortable and cozy 3 table cafe/bar area. The manager's office is off to the side there. Room Appearance: This 16 room hotel is 7 years old and is a German-Russian partnership. The rooms are all very nice and the very attractive pinewood theme continues into the rooms. Artwork is abundant throughout this hotel and in the rooms too. (It's all for sale.) Everything looks new or recent. And the bathrooms even have heated floors. Useful Nearby Businesses: If you walk out to Moskovsky Prospekt, you will see lots of stores and eating places, including a really nice bakery with a comfortable second floor sitting area that looks to the street, and a really nice coffee spot can be found as you walk to the metro. Hotel Restaurants: They have a nice spacious kitchen where you can cook your own food. Other Amenities: The bar/cafe area in the hotel is a really nice hangout spot. Pick up the remote and flip through the satellite channels. Watch whatever suits you. They have a separate breakfast room that can also function as a meeting room. Would I Stay Here? Absolutely. It's so comfortable. Staff Speaks English? Lena, the manager is studying English. She is confident in her abilities to communicate with non-Russian speakers. Comments: The German Club is a great place to stay. It's quite far from the historical center of the city, but the neighborhood is busy and a bit interesting. The metro is also close by. This hotel is an excellent value for the quality and comfort it has. Only 16 rooms. Very nice quality. I was really surprised when I walked inside and saw the atmosphere this place has.
